Steve Martin once said comedy is not pretty. Unfortunately, neither is politics.
That doesn’t stop people from wishing it was.
As near as I can tell, it is a universally held belief among Democratic and progressive influencers and pundits that campaign emails and texts from Democratic candidates are awful and gross to the point of being self-defeating. The general belief seems to be that Democrats would do better over the long run in terms of money and resources if they asked their grassroots supporters for donations less often, in less over-the-top tones, and with less intrusive signup methods.
Admittedly, this is just an impression that I have about the way influencers and pundits think. I haven’t conducted or seen any sort of survey to verify it, but it stands to reason that people would recoil from anything they consider irksome.
Even with that caveat, this belief—no matter if it is widespread or not—is just wrong.
