YEAR END SALE

Here’s an easy one. If a president’s signature policies have been roundly rejected by the public and he is facing an election year where angry votes are primed to vote against his party, should he:

  • Acknowledge the problem

  • Ask forgiveness

  • Change direction

Or should he:

  • Say the problem doesn’t exist

  • Cast blame on others

  • Stay the course

If you selected the first set of options, then you are not Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump went to Pennsylvania as part of an effort to address the affordability issue that has been propelling Democrats to outsized election performances this year.

To say it didn’t go well is an understatement, and is cause for believing that Republicans have painted themselves into a corner and have no way out.

In fact, Trump gave a master class in how to heighten the anxiety of an already worried congressional Republican conference—by doing everything wrong.
