Summer Vacation
The next two weeks at Wolves and Sheep
When I planned my July vacation months ago, I assumed the two weeks after the Republican National Convention would be a slow time for politics when attention would turn to the Olympics and the leisurely pace of long summer days.
What was I thinking?
Nothing has been predictable about our politics for years, and that includes the pace and timing of events. I leave with the recognition that I could be missing something big and unexpected.
Even so, as I recharge for what promises to be an intense fall campaign, I’m planning a full schedule of previously published posts that I think have relevance for the moment we’re in. Readership on this site has grown by a factor of ten over the past six weeks, so I thought it might be a good time to republish these essays for those who may not have had a chance to read them.
For those of you old enough to get the reference, think of it as a summer rerun.
This week and next Monday, I’m republishing three posts that try to offer perspective on our current situation through the prism of what we’ve been through over the past few years. On Wednesday, I’m reprising a post on generational realignment, and on Friday, I’m republishing my end of year post from 2022 to offer some perspective on where we are by looking back to where we were. Next Monday’s piece, written just after the insurrection, explains how January 6 would foreshadow our march toward authoritarianism.
In keeping with the theme of large-scale upheaval, on July 31, August 2, and August 5, I’m republishing my three-part series from last month called Changing of the Guard, which looks at why reactionary forces know they need to strike now if they are going to have a chance to stop major social and economic change.
Paid subscribers will continue to receive new Life in Activism memos from my partner Chris Bowers every Tuesday. And if something big and unexpected does happen, Chris will be here to address it.
Enjoy the rest of the month and I’ll see you in August.
