Patronizing, Matt. The Dems have been doing what Schumer did for 45 years and telling us it’s “tactical and necessary,” and it’ll be “alright,” in the end. Nope. Where we are is the end. The definition of insanity, etc…..
I just contacted the local Democratic Party to find out if we are doing a day of action to oppose cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. Haven't heard anything. So I contacted a coalition of several progressive groups, who weekly protest at various busy spots around the area, they told me to contact the Party because they have not heard anything. They are doing a protest on Thursday in downtown Chattanooga. I will be at that protest on March 20.
This is one of the frustrating things about the Democratic Party is a lack of communication to all state and local parties. I know if I get an email from Hakeem Jeffries, he will want money. I automatically delete all this. If I get an email about this I will let you all know, but I don't expect one.
Has anyone else heard about and are doing the Day of Action?
Completely agree. Can we address the incessant pleas for money from *everyone* in the DNC?! No answers, no plans, no messaging - just cute tricks to send them money. WTF? For what?! Am I paying your salary in donations? these are people not even running. Every survey, every petition is a phishing trick. Pisses me off to no end. Pick an f'n leader who can speak and lets go. Right now it seems to be Jeffries, so let's go. The rest of them will get STOP and unsubscribe from me until they grow an actual brain and spine.
Schumer has flopped in both electoral politics (losing the majority) and legislative politics, outmaneuvered on every front. Chris Murphy looks ready to lead, Schumer needs to get the hell out of the way.
Chris Murphy was so infectious in his plea for support at grassroot level that I did not hesitate to contribute. Since I have heard nothing substantial from him.
Maybe I missed something, but you said that Schumer "had no choice. The Republicans had the votes to pass the CR" Ok. How about not voting FOR the CR? If they had the votes, they had the votes and did not need Democrats' votes. That would have been a statement and would not have caused whatever negative outcome Senator Schumer thought there might be. I say replace this man. He isn't a leader for the times.
That was in the House, Elaine, where all but one Democrat voted against the CR. In the Senate the calculation was different because the decision was whether to filibuster the bill. This is where things get complicated. To avoid a filibuster, which was Schumer's call, the vote count had to reach 60 because cloture rules require three-fifths of all members to move the legislation along, not just three-fifths of those voting. On final passage, the only members of the Democratic caucus to support the bill were Shaheen of New Hampshire and King of Maine, but of course the key vote was on cloture.
"The DNC, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) and Democratic state parties on Friday announced that they will host a series of "in-person public events" in every state but focusing on districts with Republican representatives.
The first slate of the People's Town Halls includes stops in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska and Pennsylvania" etc.
Edit: The leaders we need are already here: Alexandria, Jasmine, Maxwell, etc. Yes Bernie, I love you too but the young ones need to lead now.
And please dont show up in blue jeans, a starched white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a cowboy hat or ball cap with a message. Be yourself not a gimmick.
I am totally on board with how this is coming to play out for our benefit. 'The game has changed'...true...and this 'game' is russian roulette...not for the faint of heart and NOT for those who do not join the team and follow through. The high road is often the long road. We dont want to simply restore peace and Democracy in our nation, we need to establish a fortified democracy...and that will call for all parties to see and feel the devastation that lies in the wake of this administration and unite with appreciation for what we once had...peace within our borders and with our staunch allies. In the long run of things this is an ugly blip on the radar. Patriotism runs deep in our country and cannot be denied. Time for effective strategy where all the i's are dotted and all the t's are crossed...I agree.
Started early with Day of Action today. Wrote to Rep. Scott Desjarlais, TN-4, Republican. Asked him to please not cut Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. This area is rural and would devastate his constituents health care and financial needs. Next up Sen. Hagerty and Blackburn.
Will Rogers said “I’m not a member of an organized political party. I’m a Democrat”. He died in 1935, so this quote could be 100 years old. And it’s still true.
Haven’t heard anything either which shines a light on the vast difficulties in communication. That Dems have, leaving our messaging weak and ineffective. This should have had at least a few days of lead up in order to be picked up by both legacy as bd independent media so we can arrange our lives in order to show up in large numbers. When just a few arrive, media downplays any good that can come of a protest. Could some communications people or agency who truly wants to help save America step up and help out our leaders?????

Going to have to disagree with Matt and Chris on this one. The game has changed…
