"The Ground Collapses Beneath Them"
Last Monday, we discussed the decision by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to challenge Republicans in districts that Donald Trump won by as much as 13 percentage points. It’s the latest indication that a blue wave election is forming and that Democrats are acting aggressively to maximize their opportunities.
In response, the National Republican Campaign Committee tried to dismiss the move by their Democratic counterparts with a statement saying, “National Democrats are daydreaming while the ground collapses beneath them.”
I called that statement the most incredible moment of projection this cycle.
By every indication, it is the Republican party that finds itself plunging into a sinkhole while doing nothing to stop the free fall.
The coalition that elected Donald Trump has disintegrated, and Republicans now find themselves losing ground with even their most loyal supporters.
