Excellent analysis, and I especially appreciate the point about money and endorsements not being a winning strategy in this race. I agree that this is a trend, and I think it’s an opportunity for Democrats to go on offense against big money in politics and Citizens United. I hope others amplify this message.

Democrats in 1980 were flummoxed by the smile that Reagan managed to paint on the right-wing pig, and have chosen to cower ever since. LBJ dug U.S. into Vietnam because he was afraid of the criticism he would get from the right wing (Goldwater, etc.) if he withdrew. Fear leads to bad things.

Yes, and let me add a discussion of the moral high ground (whatever the hell that actually means) to your analysis.

Let's use Al Franken as an example. Did I like his airplane humor? No. Do I think he should have resigned over it? In a perfect world, yes. In the real world? No.

Points awarded for the moral high ground (whatever the hell that actually means) don't do us any good when the Tea Party and MAGA are infecting the guvmint.

Just win and be happy that your side is better than the other side. Don't be a Dem voter who gets trapped -- the perfect really is the enemy of the good.

Fear leads to bad things -- and the moral high ground (whatever the hell that actually means) is a children's fairy tale. Just win -- and keep the other side out b/c they are worse than your side. It's not complicated -- Mitch McConnell figured out the system.
