On today’s Wolves and Sheep podcast we’re taking a look at where the presidential campaign stands in mid-October as early voting emphatically kicked into high gear yesterday with a record first day turnout in Georgia. When we last looked at the campaign on the podcast in late summer, things had stabilized after the turmoil of Joe Biden’s departure. It was a close race where Harris held a small lead within the margin of error and had the edge in voter motivation, how she was viewed by the public, and how effectively her campaign had organized for this last stretch. Now, as we approach Election Day, we find the race continues to look much like it did last month. In September, we speculated that Harris should be able to sustain her competitive position, and that has come to pass. But the final result will turn on how well the campaign executes on turnout, where its financial and organizational advantages could give Harris the boost she needs to shape an electorate where she can win.
